Hakone is often known for its hot springs, views of Mount Fuji, and easy access from Tokyo. But beyond its famous sights lies a deeper story shaped by mountains, forests, shrines, old highways, local traditions, and centuries of travel.

This private tour is designed around your interests. Whether you wish to explore the historic Old Tokaido Road, visit Hakone Shrine, enjoy views of Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji, discover quiet nature trails, or experience local food and culture, your guide will help create a day that fits your pace and curiosity.

Explore Hakone tours are limited to one group per day, allowing for a relaxed and personal experience. With an English-speaking licensed guide, you can enjoy Hakone not as a checklist of sightseeing spots, but as a place with stories, atmosphere, and local connections.

Travel FAQs for a Smooth Journey

01

Where do we meet, and where does the tour end?

We can meet at Odawara Station, Hakone-Yumoto Station, or - if you're staying in the Hakone area - directly at your accommodation. The tour can end at the same location or another point in the Hakone area, depending on your plans for the rest of the day.

02

What time does the tour start and end?

The standard tour runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (7 hours), timed to help you avoid the busiest crowds. Extensions beyond 7 hours may be possible — just let us know when planning your itinerary.

03

How does transportation work during the tour?

You have two options. You can purchase a Hakone Freepass yourself and travel with your guide on local trains, buses, and the ropeway. Alternatively, we can arrange a private chartered taxi for the day: a 6-seater (up to 4 guests) is $600 for 7 hours, or a 10-seater (up to 8 guests) is $650 for 7 hours.

04

Can the itinerary be customized?

Yes, that's the whole idea. You'll choose 4 to 5 activities from highlights like Lake Ashi cruising, Hakone Shrine, the Komagatake Cable Car, Onshi Hakone Park, the Old Tokaido road, traditional Yosegi Zaiku craft shops, and Amazake Chaya teahouse, and your guide will build the day around your interests.

05
