Travel FAQs for a Smooth Journey

01

How difficult is this hike?

This hike takes about 6 hours along the outer rim of the Hakone mountains, crossing several smaller peaks along the way — about 1,000 meters of ascent and 1,000 meters of descent in total. While not a technical route, the final descent runs over a rocky, uneven trail, making this hike best suited for intermediate-level hikers. Along the way, you'll enjoy sweeping views of Mt. Fuji, the Pacific Ocean, and Lake Ashi.

02

What should I bring?

Please come prepared with:
- a backpack (20-30 litres) to keep your hands free
- waterproof, windproof, breathable outerwear for layering
- separate-style rain gear; hiking boots (sneakers are not recommended)
- a water bottle of at least 0.5 litres per person (there are water refill spots along the route)
- a hat and sunglasse
- sunscreen
- energy snacks such as nuts, candy, or jelly
- any personal medication you may need

03

Where do we meet, and what's the schedule?

This tour starts from Togendai Bus Terminal near Lake Ashi. If you're staying in the Hakone area, we can arrange a private taxi to bring you there (an additional charge applies), or you're welcome to make your own way to Togendai. If a taxi is arranged, we're happy to stop by a convenience store along the way so you can pick up lunch. The tour takes about 6 hours in total

04

What happens if it rains?

This tour runs as scheduled even in rain, so please come prepared with proper rain gear (see our packing list). However, if a severe weather warning is issued that would disrupt public transportation, we'll make the call around noon the day before your tour. In that case, we can offer to switch the tour to a general sightseeing tour. If you'd prefer not to switch, you'll receive a full refund.

05
